English and Literature

Lessons in the English classroom cater to the needs of any student who has moved beyond Class 2. Learning groups vary in size from a single student to eight, depending on individual aims and skill levels.

In any one day, lessons in the English classroom can range from basic punctuation and spelling to in-depth discussions of themes and poetic techniques. Students provide the teacher with an indication of what they would like to achieve in both the short and long term, and lessons are then offered accordingly. Many older students opt for a GCSE course in Language, as this is a necessity for most college courses. Because of the international nature of the school, qualifications at First Language as well as Second Language levels are offered; a Functional Skills qualification is also on offer. For those who like reading, a Literature GCSE is available, although many prefer to enjoy the benefits of reading and sharing insights without the added stress of examinations.
